LF 2023 products are designed to facilitate national and regional level strategic fire and resource management planning and reporting of management activities. The principal purposes of the products include providing: 1) national level landscape scale geospatial products to support fire and fuels management planning and 2) consistent fuels products to support fire planning, analysis, and budgeting to evaluate fire management alternatives. Products are created at a 30meter raster; however, the applicability of products varies by location and specific use. LF products were designed to support 1) national (all states) strategic planning, 2) regional (single large states or groups of smaller states), and 3) strategic/tactical planning for large sub regional landscapes and Fire Management Units (FMUs) (such as significant portions of states or multiple federal administrative entities). The applicability of LF products to support fire and land management planning on smaller areas will vary by product, location, and specific use. Managers and planners must evaluate LF products according to the scale and requirements specific to their needs.", "description": "The LANDFIRE Public Raw Events feature class is a compilation of natural disturbance and vegetation/fuel treatment events that occurred between 1999 and 2023. The Public Raw Events feature class includes a subset of the full suite of data that were used in the production of LANDFIRE 2008 Refresh (LF 1.1.0), LANDFIRE 2010 (LF 1.2.0), LANDFIRE 2012 (LF 1.3.0), LANDFIRE 2014 (LF 1.4.0), LANDFIRE 2016 Remap (LF 2.0.0), LANDFIRE 2020 (LF 2.2.0), LANDFIRE 2022 (LF 2.3.0), and LANDFIRE 2023 (LF 2.4.0) program deliverables. According to agreements between LANDFIRE and its data contributors, certain proprietary or otherwise sensitive data were removed to create this publicly available version. For more information about the data sources included and excluded from this release, please consult the Look Up Table found at: https://www.landfire.gov/reference/publicevents. The data were collected from disparate sources including federal, state, and local, and private organizations, and systematically converted to the standard LANDFIRE Events format. The data in the Public Raw Events feature class were analyzed to eliminate geospatial or information content errors, but otherwise represent the full account of acceptable data processed for LANDFIRE. Data from 1999-2020 were processed by calendar year and data from 2021-2023 were processed by fiscal year. Fiscal year is from October 1st through September 30th. Calendar and fiscal year were pulled from the end date (where available) for all treatments and disturbances from 1999-2022. In 2023, LF switched to pulling calendar and fiscal year from the start date (where available) for wildfire, wildland fire, and wildland fire use events. The Raw Events data may include multiple perimeters for the same event and a high degree of overlap between events within a single year or fiscal year. Examples of the former include a natural disturbance or vegetation/fuel treatment event reported by multiple agencies or individuals. Examples of the latter include locations in which multiple vegetation/fuel treatments and/or natural disturbances occurred within the same year or fiscal year.", "summary": "The LF 2023 Update (LF 2023, version 240) is the fourth update to LANDFIRE’s new base map LF 2016 Remap (version 200) and will be releasing throughout calendar year 2024.
